21st Annual Music Spectacular
0ver 1,000 elementary, middle and high school students from New Jersey and Pennsylvania will be converging on the Strand Theater for a music assembly about jazz with a world famous jazz artist and the Lakewood Jazz Ensemble. The students will be guests of the Lakewood Jazz Ensemble for the annual 11 hour Music Spectacular Jazz Festival. Previous performances have featured Maynard Ferguson, Dizzy Gillespie, Lew Soloff, Clark Terry, Slide Hampton, Phil Woods, Louis Bellson, Arturo Sandoval, Byron Stripling, Allen Vizzutti, David Garibaldi, Bill Watrous, Bobby Shew, Steve Turre and Butch Miles, Bob Mintzer,Claudio Roditi and Dave Weckl. Students will be bussed from tri-state high schools representing an audience that will fill every seat in the Strand Theater.The Lakewood Jazz Ensemble is a community arts program sponsored by the Township of Lakewood. Comprised of twenty outstanding musicians, the band rehearses and performs regularly under the expert direction of Director, Wilbur Wittemann. Following the 10:30 a.m. performance, the high school jazz bands from area schools will perform for adjudication.
